What is it?
BackMEup is an online backup service that will automatically backup and store your valuable Shortcuts data safely off-site, protecting you from disasters like:
- Fire or flood
- Theft (internal or external)
- Computer failure (hard drive crash)
- Data corruption as the result of an electrical power surge, sometimes caused by an electrical storm
- Other unforeseen events.
How will it help my business?
If you’re backing up every single day, we sincerely congratulate you. This is best business practice and you should continue to do this every single day. However, while this might work for some business owners, it is not an automatic process and unfortunately relies on human intervention. Also, as is often in the case of a disaster, USB key and other backup media left onsite can be of little or no help at all. BackMEup stores your data off-site automatically, which means your invaluable business information is always protected.
Do I still need to back up myself?
Shortcuts always recommends that you still take a daily backup to ensure that every possible avenue is secured for peace of mind.
How do I know it has backed up?
You will receive an email shortly after each backup to confirm that the backup has been completed successfully.
Who has access to my data? Where is it stored? And is it secure?
Your data is absolutely secure. Only you will have the password to access the data as and when this may be required. All data is encrypted and stored externally on a secure drive.
How do I access my backup?
Contact the Shortcuts Helpdesk to gain access to your backup. Please note: This is not an immediate process.
Will it back up my data more than once a day?
Yes. Backups will take place periodically throughout the day to cater for varying business opening hours. For example: 8am, 12pm, 4pm etc.
Will I be able to use my computer when the backups take place?
Yes, absolutely. The backup is a speedy process and you won’t even know it’s happening. You are fine to use your system as normal throughout the day.
Do I have to do anything?
No. As long as your computer is connected to the internet, the backup will automatically take place.
